Volunteers – We Need You!

While recruiting Team members, if you come across someone that would like to help out, but can’t walk, please ask them if they would like to Volunteer on Walk day. It takes nearly 40 Volunteers to setup and run the Walk site. This is a great opportunity for someone to be involved that might not otherwise be able to.

A Walk Day Volunteer form will be included in your Team Captain folder, or one can be accessed and printed off by clicking here! You can also have them call or email Shana Allen at nami@lments.net or 206-935-4170.

We love and appreciate our volunteers!!

CIT Training Offered

The second Tri-Cities CIT class (Crisis Intervention Training) for police officers and other first responders will take place April 6th through April 10th.  It is a week-long (40 hour) class which teaches about mental illness and related conditions such as Alzheimer’s and developmental disabilities.  It teaches the officers practical skills in de-escalating crisis situations, so that in many cases arrests can be avoided.  Crises can be handled without injury to our loved ones or the officers.

As part of the class, the officers sit down in pairs with a consumer to ask a set of questions.  The consumers are given the questions ahead of time, and may have a friend or family member with them if they desire.  Before the class last April, both the consumers and the officers were apprehensive, but in their evaluations the consumers all said they would like to do it again, and the officers suggested that the class devote more time to these visits!  If you know any consumers who would be interested in participating, contact Cindy Adams at the RSN (735-8681).

The first class (last April) was an outstanding success, and we hope this one will be also.  If you know any first responders in the Tri-Cities or surrounding areas who would like to take the class, they can register by contacting the training officer at the Kennewick Police Department.   There will also be a class offered June 22nd through 26th.
